It’s time to talk organic! In the world we live in, there is so much talk about organic products – but it can be tough to work out what it all means.
It’s time to talk organic! In the world we live in, there is so much talk about organic products – but it can be tough to work out what it all means. So, to help give some clarity, we have put together an overview of everything you need to know about our 100% organic cotton bed sheets.
Shelu’s organic guidelines
Here at Shelu, we follow the organic guidelines set by The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), which is the international body that regulates fibre products such as yarns, fabrics, clothes and home textiles – including cotton!
What makes our cotton organic?
In order for our sheets to be classified as organic, we need to meet a strict set of criteria. GOTS will only classify a product as ‘organic’ if is farmed organically through the treatment of cotton crops through to the harvesting, and any products that have the tag ‘organic’ must have been made with at least 95% certified organic fibres. As well as this, products also need to be manufactured in a way that is environmentally and socially responsible in order to receive certification.
Do organic farmers use pesticides?
The answer is yes and no. What differs between an organic farm and a non organic farm is the type of pesticides used. An organic certified farm is still able to use natural pesticides, such as ones that are derived from natural resources such as plants and bacteria – while non organic farms are able to use GMO’s and synesthetic pesticides.
Why is it important?
Here at Shelu, we’re passionate about promoting wellbeing and equal opportunity, and we believe that no one should be working in an environment that compromises their health or can be harmful to the environment. By choosing organic products, you as the consumer have the power to support those in the world’s most disadvantaged communities to live a better life – and enhance the opportunities for all!
